Trevor Siemian on Tony Romo rumors: ‘I’m not as dumb as I look’

There are rumors swirling about connecting Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo to the Denver Broncos. Romo made it known recently that the Broncos would be his choice team if the opportunity presented itself.

If Romo was to take a pay cut, he realistically could be signed by Denver this offseason. Of course, this would shove Trevor Siemian out of his starting gig with the Broncos.

Siemian had some interesting comments to share regarding the possibility of Romo coming aboard.

“It doesn’t [bother me],” of the team’s willingness to entertain the idea of going in a different direction at quarterback. “That’s the deal I’m in. I was a seventh-round pick,” Siemian said, via 104.3 The Fan in Denver. “I’m not as dumb as I look, I’m going to have to fight and scratch and claw my way my whole career. I’m fine with that. Truthfully, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The glaring words from Siemian here are the reference to not being as dumb as he looks.

Nevertheless, it was an interesting choice of words and likely a surprise to many. Siemian struggled in his starting role in 2016,  passing for 3,401 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Unfortunately, this caused the entire offense to take a step back from the previous season.

Denver missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Clearly, Romo would be an upgrade over Siemian and second-year player Paxton Lynch in 2017.

We will have to follow what happens with Romo, as there are many teams that will likely reach out in the coming months. Romo is expected to be traded according to a recent comment made by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
