Report: Paul Pierce to return to Clippers for 19th NBA season

Paul Pierce

After months of deliberating about his future, Paul Pierce has reportedly made his decision to return to the Los Angeles Clippers for the 2016-17 NBA season.

“Pierce, an 18-season veteran in the NBA, is planning to return to the Los Angeles Clippers for his 19th season in the league according to multiple league sources,” writes Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Daily News.

Woike acknowledged that Pierce could very well change his mind again, as he’s been waffling on the decision for months.

Last season was a frustrating one for Pierce, who experienced the worst season of his professional career. He averaged just 6.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and one assist per game playing an average of 18.1 minutes per night.

It’s hard to imagine the veteran small forward will see an increased role this year. The Clippers re-signed Wesley Johnson and Luke Mbah a Moute and brought on Alan Anderson in free agency, preparing for the potential retirement of Pierce.

Still his value will be seen not only by what he can contribute on the court, but off it as well. With 18 years of NBA experience, including a championship with the Boston Celtics, Pierce is an invaluable resource for a team that is trying to take the next step.
