Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle is selling over 2,300 music CDs to benefit charity.

The former MLB outfielder turned manager is putting his large CD collection up for auction to benefit a local radio station (91.3 WYEP), and Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (USA).

WYEP is a non-profit radio station that has served the greater Pittsburgh area for over 40 years. The stated mission of the station is “to enrich the community through music discovery, expression and education and we do this by delivering quality programming on the air and online and producing a series of live music events throughout the city.”

The Prader-Willi Syndrome Association is an organization that provides support and education while helping to promote and fund research to enhance the lives of those who deal with the disease. This disease is “the most common known genetic cause of life-threatening obesity in children and affects one out of every 15,000 people.”

According to the radio station’s website, Hurdle’s 2,300-plus CD collection is being sold in four lots, which cannot be broken up. Here is a description of the collection, via the site.

“The collection reflects his time living and playing in various parts of the country. From Kansas City to New York to St. Louis to Colorado to Texas and all the way to Pittsburgh, Clint developed a deep appreciation for blues and roots music, country music, rock and roll, folk music and a lot of local and regional artists he was introduced to along the way. There are more than 2,300 albums from hundreds of artists spanning a wide range of genres.  There is something wonderful for everyone.  It truly is a music collector’s dream!”

The online auction can be found here: Click to go to Biddingowl.com.

Hurdle’s Pirates are currently 4.5 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central and just 1.5 games out of the Wild Card chase.
