Brandon Browner on Belichick: Tests You More Than Carroll

A week after the Seattle Seahawks fell to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX, players from that instant classic are still speaking out about the game and those involved in what was one of the best Super Bowls in recent history.

When comparing Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll to Patriots head man Bill Belichick, Patriots cornerback Brandon Browner sees a major difference in coaching styles.

Well, they’re (Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll) both fun to play for,” Browner said said on CBS Radio’s Tiki and Tierney . “Anytime you can play ball, do what you love, make a lot of money, it would be fun. It’s just two different environments.

Pete Carroll, it’s a lot loose around there. On your way to meetings, you can be hearing your favorite rap artist playing in the meeting room. We got a basketball court in the meeting room. We shoot best-of-five before a meeting starts.

“Belichick’s old school, which I’m used to,” the veteran defensive back continued. “He reminds me of my high school coach. You’re running after every practice and things like that. They’re both fun. Belichick will test you a little more, I’d say. Pete keeps it loose and fun like we’re still in high school.

While this can’t be seen as a knock on Carroll as much as it is a different philosophy regarding coaching, it’s still a rather interesting comment from Browner, who played for Carroll from 2011-2013 before joining the Patriots this past season.

By all possible standards, Carroll is a players coach. That’s a style that works extremely well when a team is winning. But as we saw previously with Carroll in New England and New York, it’s also a style that can create issues when a team is losing.

The good news here for fans in the Pacific Northwest is that Seattle isn’t going to be falling flat anytime soon. Based on the young talent it possesses, this is a team that will be in contention for the foreseeable future.
