The New York Yankees placed right-handed reliever Darren O’Day on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right rotator cuff strain.
The 38-year-old side-armer has a 3.00 ERA in 10 relief appearances this season, with nine strikeouts and two walks in nine innings.
In his most recent outing, O’Day allowed one run on one hit and a walk in the eighth inning of Thursday’s 4-3, 10-inning loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
O’Day owns a 40-19 record with 21 saves and a 2.52 ERA in 614 bullpen appearances with the Los Angeles Angels (2008), New York Mets (2009), Texas Rangers (2009-11), Baltimore Orioles (2012-18), Atlanta Braves (2019-20) and Yankees. He was an All-Star in 2015.
In a corresponding move, the Yankees recalled right-hander Michael King from the alternate training site. In three appearances this season, King has allowed four hits and struck out nine in 11 shutout innings.
