New York Yankees All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez left Thursday’s game against the Detroit Tigers with left groin tightness.
Sanchez, who was playing in the second game of the team’s doubleheader, was replaced during the fourth inning of the game. The Yankees later announced the specifics of the injury.
The 26-year-old catcher is among the best hitters amongst his peers with 34 home runs, 77 RBI and a .849 OPS across 103 games this season. The All-Star missed 16 games early in the second half of the season with a left groin strain.
New York will likely exercise caution with Sanchez given the nature of the injury and his importance to the team for its upcoming October run. The Yankees also lost Edwin Encarnacion and J.A. Happ to injuries on Thursday.
