Wofford removed the interim tag and named Dwight Perry the Terriers’ permanent head coach on Tuesday.

Perry went 12-12 since replacing Jay McAuley midseason. McAuley resigned Dec. 30 amid reports that his players were unhappy and unwilling to keep playing for him. He had been on a leave of absence after a loss at Vanderbilt on Dec. 3.

“Wofford is a special place,” Perry said in a statement. “I am looking forward to building off the many great coaches and players that are part of the tradition here who build that foundation of Wofford basketball. We are going to move the program in a positive direction both on and off the court with these student-athletes. I am ready to get to work.”

Wofford finished the season 17-16, losing to Chattanooga in the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament.

“(Perry) did a great job during the past season of bringing stability to the program and building a culture of teamwork, grit and competitiveness,” athletic director Richard Johnson said in a statement. “We look forward watching the program move forward under his leadership.”
