White Sox place IF Elvis Andrus (oblique) on IL

The Chicago White Sox placed shortstop Elvis Andrus on the injured list with a strained left oblique and reinstated infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez from the IL.

Andrus, 34, is batting .201 with one home run and 13 RBIs in 39 games with the White Sox this season. He is a career .269 hitter with 97 home runs and 744 RBIs in 1,986 games over 15 seasons, 12 of them with the Texas Rangers.

Gonzalez, 26, was batting .139 in 21 games with the White Sox earlier this season and had been out retroactive to May 1 with right shoulder inflammation. In parts of three seasons in Chicago, he is a career .220 hitter with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 63 games.
