Damir Kreilach scored a pair of goals and Erik Holt produced the tiebreaking tally in second-half stoppage time to lift Real Salt Lake to a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in Sandy, Utah, on Friday night.

Salt Lake (3-1-3, 12 points) snapped a three-game winless streak with goals in the waning moments to earn its second home victory of the season.

Brian White scored a second-half goal in his Whitecaps debut, but it wasn’t enough to keep Vancouver (2-5-1, 7 points) from taking its fourth loss in a row.

Holt broke a 1-1 tie two minutes into second-half stoppage time when he headed home a pass from Aaron Herrera.

Kreilach added his second goal three minutes later on another header off a cross from Justin Meram.

Salt Lake was the more dangerous team through the first half. RSL generated six shots and put four on frame. Defensively, the Utah club limited Vancouver to two shots before halftime. The Whitecaps put only a single ball on target during that stretch.

Aggressiveness paid off for Salt Lake with Kreilach’s opening goal in the 43rd minute. Albert Rusniak back-heeled the ball to him outside the top of the box. Kreilach teed up and blasted the ball down the middle to put RSL up 1-0.

Vancouver evened the score on White’s 16th career MLS goal in the 54th minute. Javain Brown sent a cross down to the back post. White tapped in a left footer, threading the ball just inside the post for the equalizer.

White was acquired by the Whitecaps in a trade with the New York Red Bulls on June 2.

The Whitecaps came close to taking the lead in the 71st minute. Andy Rose unleashed a header from the center of the 6-yard box following a free kick. The ball clanked off the crossbar.
