WATCH: Saints gift Panthers a second chance with fumble out of end zone

The New Orleans Saints had the division rival Carolina Panthers on the brink Monday night. Up 12-9 with under two minutes left in the fourth quarter, New Orleans faced a third-and-goal from the Panthers’ five. If they were able to get it in, Carolina’s playoff hopes would be over.

Instead, New Orleans gave Cam Newton and Co. another opportunity to salvage their season. It came after wide receiver Tommylee Lewis fumbled the ball into the end zone — resulting in a touchback.

You have to be smarter than that. If it’s not there, just go down to the ground and run some more time off the clock.

Instead, the Panthers were given another life.

It’s just the latest in a number of crazy plays to take place between these two division rivals on Monday Night Football.

Fortunately for the Saints, they were ultimately able to come out on top after holding the Panthers without points to conclude the game.
