WATCH: Pirates’ Joe Musgrove saves a run with incredible play following comedy of errors

Pittsburgh Pirates Joe Musgrove

Just when it looked like the St. Louis Cardinals were going to put another run on the board, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Joe Musgrove saved the day.

Kolten Wong was at the plate and hit a stinger into the gap in right-center field off Musgrove. Pirates center fielder Jarrod Dyson missed it upon first approach, then finally picked the ball up after coming back to it. Then he threw to the cut-off man, who fired a dart into third base — only it was off target.

Wong then got up after sliding head first, running toward home plate. It appeared as if the comedy of errors from the Pirates was going to allow him to score. Then, Musgrove made a stunning play to throw him out at the plate.

I’m exhausted just from watching that play out. An incredibly sequence that ended with Wong feeling pretty silly with himself, and with Musgrove putting a web gem on his resume. It’s also pretty awesome that he was able to get some payback on Wong after getting tattooed off the mound at the start of the entire thing.
