WATCH: Peyton Manning shares incredibly wise advice speaking about young quarterbacks

Peyton Manning had some wisdom to share about what young quarterbacks should expect when they get to college, and it applies to us all in a broader sense.

Manning has been at at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana for his annual Manning Passing Academy. He was asked if he had any advice to share for high school quarterbacks who want to start right away in college, and his response was incredible.

Manning said wanting to be the starter is “a great mentality.” Yet that doesn’t often happen for young quarterbacks in their first year, right off the bat.

He related how, as a freshman, he wasn’t even expected to play. Yet a series of circumstances paved the way for him to start eight games in his first year.

Following that, he said, “I would just encourage guys to stay with it. It’s a marathon. It’s not a sprint. And not just to react so quickly…competition is good for you, and it can make you better.”

Those words apply to us all. Tough times and unfulfilled expectations can be difficult to deal with. Yet persistence and a positive attitude are often rewarded in the long run.
