Apparently bank shots are becoming a thing in the NBA Playoffs. A day after Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose banked in a game-winner against the Cleveland Cavaliers, it was Paul Pierce’s turn.
With Game 3 of the Washington Wizards-Atlanta Hawks Eastern Conference Semifinals series tied at 101, Pierce decided to take things upon himself.
Yup. That’s a game-winning bank shot from the top of the key to give the Wizards a 103-101 win as time expired.
For the Wizards, this was a much-needed boost after letting Atlanta back in the game. Washington took a 17-point lead into the fourth quarter, before opening it up to 21 with less than 10 minutes remaining. That’s when Dennis Schroeder took over, scoring 16 points in the final stanza.
What looked like a comeback performance from Schroeder and the Hawks, ended up being a dramatic game-winning performance from Pierce and the Wizards.
Like the Bulls-Cavaliers series, the lower seed (Washington) now holds a 2-1 lead heading into Game 4 against Atlanta.
