Phillip Danault had two goals and an assist and the visiting Los Angeles Kings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 Monday night to extend their winning streak to five games.

Andreas Athanasiou added a goal and assist and Trevor Moore, a former Maple Leaf, and Adrian Kempe also scored for the Kings. Alex Iafallo added two assists.

Jonathan Quick made 33 saves for Los Angeles.

John Tavares scored for the Maple Leafs, who had a five-game winning streak end.

Jack Campbell, a former King, stopped 24 shots for Toronto.

The Kings took a 2-0 lead in the first period when two players scored their first goals of the season.

Moore lugged the puck from the neutral zone before chipping the puck past Campbell at 10:52. Campbell and Moore were part of a trade between the teams Feb. 5, 2020.

Athanasiou took a quick pass from Danault outside the Toronto blue line and switched from his backhand to his forehand before scoring with a high shot at 14:21. Athanasiou was playing his second game of the season after being out with an undisclosed injury.

Tavares scored his seventh goal of the season on a power play at 1:51 of the second period, shooting from the left circle after taking Mitchell Marner’s pass. Moore was off for hooking.

Danault scored at 13:56 of the second period, set up by Athanasiou’s pass. The puck trickled over the line after it deflected off Danault’s skate before he sprawled into the crease. A video review determined that the puck was not kicked in.

Each team had 20 shots on goal after two periods

Auston Matthews missed the net when he broke in on the Kings goal at 5:49 of the third period. Quick then made a good stop on Matthews at 8:07.
