As the Jacksonville Jaguars were making a call to former Florida defensive lineman Taven Bryan to tell him he was going to be the 29th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, a funny thing happened.
Not only was Bryan able to talk to owner Shahid Khan and VP Tom Coughlin, he got in a few words with head coach Doug Marrone. Well, actually, Marrone did most of the talking.
And it’s all sorts of awesome.
“Let’s go now. Make sure you get over here. We got lift tomorrow,” Marrone said. “Bring your stuff. We’ll get to work right away…so just come down here. Be careful. Be safe. Don’t do anything stupid.”

Less than 18 hours after being drafted, and the Jaguars want Bryan in the weight room to do some lifting. They also want to make sure he doesn’t “do anything stupid” on his way to Jacksonville.
The selection itself was about as good as it got for the first round. Bryan is seen as one of the best defensive line prospects in the draft. He’ll fit in well in a front seven that already includes Dante Fowler, Marcell Dareus, Malik Jackson, Calais Campbell, Telvin Smith and Myles Jack.
That’s just scary.
