WATCH: Jackie Bradley Jr. and Mookie Betts combine for huge mistake

Jackie Bradley Jr. and Mookie Betts are arguably MLB’s best defensive players at their respective positions. But on Thursday, the Boston Red Sox teammates committed an epic gaffe.

With two outs and two on, Oakland Athletics right fielder Stephen Piscotty hit a fly ball deep to right-center field. Only there was some miscommunication. Instead of catching it, the two both held up and watched the ball right in between them.

This isn’t something we see too often in the majors, especially from a pair of Gold Glovers.

Both Bradley and Betts did have to run a decent distance to track the ball down. But the ball was hit high enough that either could have easily caught it.

The guy we have to feel bad for here is pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez. He should have been out of the inning on this play. Not only did that not happen, but since this is technically not an error, both runs are charged to him.

It may not be an error. But this is a play that we’ll be seeing on blooper reels for a while.
