Just before halftime, it appeared the Notre Dame offense was set to go up by two scores.

Then running back Jafar Armstrong was hit at the 1-yard line by Hokies linebacker Rayshard Ashby, fumbled, allowing Hokies defensive back Divine Deablo to catch the ball in mid-air and romp 98 yards for a touchdown.

Here’s the video of this stunning scoop-and-score by Ashby.

Incredibly, this was the first fumble that an Irish running back has lost in a long, long time.

After the extra point, the Virginia Tech Hokies had tied the game up 14-14 heading into halftime. This swing looms large as the Irish attempt to rebound from a crushing loss to Michigan one week ago.
