The first round of this year’s 2018 NFL Draft has been full of emotional roller coasters, but absolutely nothing compares to the scene of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier walking up to the podium to announce his team’s Day 1 selection.
Shazier, who suffered a severe spine injury last season with Pittsburgh, actually walked up to the podium to announce the Steelers pick — safety Terrell Edmunds from Virginia Tech.
Fans on hand at AT&T Stadium in Arlington greeted Shazier with an absolutely amazing standing ovation. It really was a sight to behold.
As you can see, Shazier is still having difficulty walking. That’s not the takeaway here. He was on hand in Dallas to show his team support. He’s walking. And the fans in Texas showed him the brotherly love we all believe should exist in the sports world.
What an amazing moment.
