WATCH: Cardinals pitcher with rare stolen base

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jack Flaherty didn’t have a great initial go at it from the mound Friday afternoon against the Chicago Cubs.

He yielded a three-run blast to the red-hot Anthony Rizzo after surrendering consecutive walks in the third inning.

But that shouldn’t be the focus here. Instead, Flaherty legitimately stole a base off the Cubs before yielding that three-run blast.

It sure does help that Cubs catcher Willson Contreras wasn’t even looking at second base.

Even then, we’re going to give Flaherty credit here. From our estimation it looks to be a 4.75 40-yard dash. Maybe he’s found a role for St. Louis between starts.

Just saying.
