Washington State is set to remove the interim tag and make Jake Dickert its permanent head coach, Sports Illustrated and On3 reported Saturday night.

Dickert, 38, was named the interim head coach on Oct. 18 after the school fired Nick Rolovich for refusing to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, a state mandate. Dickert was defensive coordinator on Rolovich’s staff.

Dickert led the Cougars to a 3-2 record since the upheaval, including Friday night’s 40-13 rout of rival Washington. It marked Wazzu’s first win in the Apple Cup series since 2012 and its first in Seattle since 2007.

The Cougars finish the regular season 7-5 overall.

Dickert has never been a head coach in FBS.
