After playing just 14 games for the eventual NBA champion Golden State Warriors last season, the recently retired Anderson Varejao will receive a ring for his contributions.
Even after waiving him early in the season, Warriors offered Varejao a championship ring. He accepted.
“Two weeks ago I got a call from the Golden State and they told me that there was a vote between the players and the coaching staff, and they decided that it would be well deserved that I receive a ring for the time I spent with them,” Varejao told Por SporTV.com in Brazil.
It’s an intriguing turn for the 13-year NBA veteran. After bring traded from Cleveland to Portland and then picked up by Golden State in 2015-16, Varejao rejected an offer from the Cavaliers to accept a championship ring. Though, this came after his former team defeated Golden State in the NBA Finals that June.
In any event, it’s a tremendous end to what was a scrappy career for the Brazilian big man.
