“Locker room talk” usually comes with a negative connotation, but Andre Iguodala says the Golden State Warriors discuss important topics far beyond basketball.
In an interview with Wealthsimple, Iguodala discussed how he, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and JaVale McGee are involved in investing and technology but don’t think of it as competition.
“We inform each other of what’s going on. We have a lot of conversations. I learn something from all of those guys. Steph was having a conversation about net neutrality one day, and I wasn’t as caught up on it. He got started on it, and I was locked in, because he did his homework! That’s our locker room talk.”
Iguodala added that recently signed free agents have arrived in Golden State and immediately asked for their thoughts about a business.
Perceptions of locker-room culture have some merit occasionally, and the sports world has brought many stories of once-rich players who went broke. The Warriors appear to be among the positive stories, though.
In addition to the quartet, Kevin Durant is also a well-known investor. Golden State has plenty of money-conscious players on the roster.
Hopefully, the example they’re setting for young players is felt across the NBA, not just on the Warriors.
