NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp has been embroiled in a lawsuit stemming from allegations that he injured a woman at a Super Bowl party in 2015.

According to TMZ Sports, Sapp’s lawyer has asked the court to declare the suit a “sham,” meaning the claims of Paula Trickey, the woman accusing Sapp, would be deemed false. Furthermore, Sapp is requesting that the court impose a financial penalty upon Trickey for filing a false lawsuit, per the report.

Sapp has maintained his innocence in this case from the beginning. Furthermore, the former NFL star said he wasn’t even in attendance at the Super Bowl party where Trickey said she was injured, at the time it happened.

With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising that his legal team is taking this step to attempt having the case thrown out.
