Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the host Arizona Cardinals after sustaining a concussion in a car accident.

Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said Griffen was driving to the team’s headquarters in Eagan, Minn., on Thursday when he swerved his car to avoid hitting a deer.

Griffen, 33, appeared on the injury report on Thursday. He was ruled out for Sunday’s game along with linebacker Anthony Barr (knee), safety Harrison Hand (hamstring) and rookie left tackle Christian Darrisaw (groin). Middle linebacker Eric Kendricks is questionable with a quad injury.

The four-time Pro Bowl selection totaled 74.5 sacks in 147 games (88 starts) for Minnesota from 2010-19. He spent the 2020 season with the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions before re-joining the Vikings on Aug. 23.

Griffen did not record a tackle while playing 28 defensive snaps in Minnesota’s 27-24 overtime loss Sunday to the Cincinnati Bengals.
