Report: Vikings have ‘guarded optimism’ but still concerned about Sam Bradford’s knee

Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford on Monday Night Football

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford suffered a minor knee injury that could potentially keep him out of Week 2, but the team is reportedly optimistic he’ll play.

Bradford had swelling, pain and discomfort in his twice-repaired left knee this week, per ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. Adam Schefter added that the “Vikings have guarded optimism but concern” about Bradford’s left knee injury, which did require an MRI this week. Obviously the results came back negative, which is a big positive at this point.

If Bradford’s knee doesn’t allow him to play on Sunday, then the Vikings will have to go with veteran backup Case Keenum.

If you don’t recall, Keenum was awful last season as a starter for the Los Angeles Rams before giving way to rookie Jared Goff. Obviously he’d be a significant downgrade from Bradford, who along with Alex Smith last week made NFL history in a Week 1 performance by a starting quarterback.

Bradford finished Monday night’s game against the New Orleans Saints with 346 yards on 27-of-32 passing with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
