Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has been an absolute disaster in his first season in that role. On the field, Jacksonville boasts a 2-11 record and was just on the losing end of a shutout.
Off the field, the legendary former college football coach has been even more of a disaster. That recently included calling out his coaching staff and pretty much indicating that they were all losers. It’s just the latest example of Meyer being in over his head as a professional coach.
We now have more information on this via former Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo. It might be the most damning allegation against Urban Meyer that we’ve seen in Duval.
Former Jacksonville Jaguars player accuses Urban Meyer of abuse
“I’m in a lunge position. Left leg forward, right leg back,” Lambo said, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “Urban Meyer, while I’m in that stretch position, comes up to me and says, ‘Hey Dips–t, make your f–king kicks’ and kicks me in the leg.”
Lambo continued.
“I don’t care if it’s football or not, the boss can’t strike an employee. And for a second, I couldn’t believe it actually happened,” the veteran kicker said. “Pardon my vulgarity , I said, “Don’t you ever f**king kick me again!’ And his response was, ‘I’m the head ball coach, I’ll kick you whenever the f**k I want.'”
Um, what the heck is even happening here? This is workplace misconduct in the truest sense of the term. If proven true, Meyer should immediately be removed of his duties as the Jaguars’ head coach by owner Shahid Khan.
There seems to be a sense of entitlement on the part of Meyer. The national championship head coach believes he’s better than everyone else, players and coaches included. It has led to an obvious disconnect within the Jaguars’ locker room this season.
As for Lambo, he played the first three games of the season with Jacksonville before being released. The veteran was with the Jaguars from 2017-20 under a previous regime.
