Featherweight contender Andre Fili was in need of a win during UFC Fight Night Saturday in Las Vegas. The last time the 20-year-old Fili took to the Octagon, he lost to Sodiq Yusuff in UFC 246.
Needless to say, a loss Saturday night would have led to Fili missing out on taking part in Fight Island next month.
The good news here is that he came out on top against a lesser known Charles Jourdain in their match Saturday night. This, despite the fact that he was nearly submitted early in the bout.
Following his 21st career win, Fili called out the officials for the split decision. He thought that it was obvious he had won.
Regardless, Fili will now likely be on center stage moving forward. As noted above, it was a much-needed win.
