Sal Alosi, a former strength coach for the UConn men’s basketball program, has sued over the school’s COVID-19 protocols.

Alosi claims he was let go for refusing coach Dan Hurley’s demands to violate NCAA and school COVID-19 guidelines. A hearing to determine possible dismissal of the case was held Thursday, with no immediate ruling provided.

The school says Alosi didn’t go through proper channels before resorting to his lawsuit.

Alossi says he was told to return to the weight room last June during the height of the pandemic — and in violation of NCAA protocols.

As the lawsuit states, “Coach Hurley questioned Alosi’s commitment and whether Alosi wanted to remain employed at UConn … Alosi reiterated his commitment, but reemphasized that he was concerned about rule violations and student-athlete safety.”

Alosi, previously a strength coach with the NFL’s New York Jets, earned headlines in 2010 for tripping Dolphins player Nolan Carroll during live action and being fined by the Jets and the NFL for that act.
