Tyronn Lue celebrated 42nd birthday with Lakers-themed cake

The Los Angeles Lakers have yet to announce Tyronn Lue as their next head coach, but based on his weekend activity in Las Vegas it seems the deal is all but signed.

TMZ Sports shared pictures of a Lakers-themed birthday cake for Lue’s 42nd birthday, which he celebrated with less than 10 friends in Vegas.

“We’re told Lue rented out the entire restaurant and celebrated with his closest friends and family — less than 10 people at the party,” TMZ reported. “But, the biggest moment of the night was the cake — which sported a giant Lakers logo and a basketball hoop … along with the message, ‘Happy Birthday Coach.'”

Lue has been considered the front-runner to replace Luke Walton in Los Angeles for a while now. He previously coached LeBron James during his tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers, winning a championship in 2016.

Whether that past success translates to future titles in Los Angeles is certainly up for debate. But at this point all signs (and the birthday cake) point to a reunion between Lue and James in Los Angeles.
