Shinnecock Hills is decisively winning the fight against the world’s best golfers during the first round of the U.S. Open.
With strong winds and a dried out course, the conditions are exceptionally difficult.
The Twitter world took notice.
Walked nine w Spieth, Mickelson and McElroy. In a word, carnage.

Phil Mickelson missed exactly one fairway in round one and he’s 7 over playing his final hole. Shinnecock Hills is a beast today

But this wasn’t about one disappointing, big-name group. Shinnecock was laying waste to just about everyone.
I can’t remember much of Shinnecock Hills. I’ve clearly blanked it out my memory. Looking at some of the scores I know why now! ⛳️

Me, dumb: I wonder how hard Shinnecock could actually be for professional golfers.

Shinnecock devoured some of golf’s biggest names this morning.

Shinnecock to every player in the field. pic.twitter.com/lBu7z1bdkC

It's a bloodbath out there at Shinnecock. Only 2 players under Par and the worlds best not even close to the Lead. #USOpen2018

And golfers got no breaks. Literally every hole on the course provided a vast challenge.
Every hole but the 18th has been double-bogeyed at least once so far today. Eight of the 18 holes have at least one "other."

It’s going to be quite a battle on Friday to see who can even make the cut. Then again, those who don’t may be getting off lucky.
