The New Orleans Saints found themselves in a major dog fight against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Divisional Playoffs on Sunday. Down 17-0 at the half, New Orleans scored two unanswered touchdowns to make it 17-14 early in the fourth.
That’s when Saints head coach Sean Payton got challenge happy at the worst possible time. The first came when Vikings quarterback Case Keenum hit Jarius Wright on a 27-yard pass. Payton challenged, claiming the ball had hit the ground. It didn’t.

Then, a couple plays later, it looked like the Saints got to Keenum for a sack. But on review, it was obvious the quarterback was able to throw the ball away before his knee hit the ground. Despite obvious evidence to the contrary, Payton challenged that play, too.
It left the Saints without a challenge and with just one timeout remaining for pretty much the remainder of the fourth quarter. And Twitter had an absolute blast with it.

"After review, the call is confirmed."

"Sean, you can't …"
"Challenge."
"But you don't even have any …"
"Challenge."

After the final misguided challenge, Vikings kicker Kai Forbath nailed a 49-yard field goal to put his team up 20-14. Needless to say, the Saints might want those two challenges and timeouts back.
