Now here’s something interesting. Trent Williams, who has been fighting with Washington to get traded recently, reportedly shut down trade talks with the Minnesota Vikings.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Vikings were closing in on a deal for the seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle. That’s when Williams himself stopped the process, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

“At some point over the course of today, Williams made it known he would rather not go to the Minnesota Vikings,” Rapoport said Friday night. “Essentially, that ended the trade right there.”

There’s been talk about Williams potentially reuniting with Kyle Shanahan as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. However, the 49ers recently made it clear they believe Joe Staley will be returning in 2020 so that doesn’t make a ton of sense.

It’s somewhat puzzling that Williams would turn down an opportunity to play for a contender. However, when you realize the Vikings aren’t loaded with cap space and might not be willing to give Williams the type of contract he wants, the pieces fall into place.
