The Carolina Panthers have reportedly released veteran wide receiver Torrey Smith.
Smith, 30, joined the Panthers in 2018 as part of a trade that sent cornerback Daryl Worley to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Last season, the veteran appeared in 11 games, starting six for the Panthers. He caught just 17 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns.
In no way is this roster move a surprise. Once one of the league’s most feared deep threats, Smith hasn’t been the same since the 2016 season when he was with the San Francisco 49ers. Meanwhile, the Panthers have assembled one of the most talented young groups of receivers in the league.
Smith is a two-time Super Bowl champ and could potentially hold value for a team that needs a veteran presence in its wide receivers room.
