Wide receiver Torrey Smith caught 30 touchdown passes from Joe Flacco over the course of his first four NFL seasons, all with the Baltimore Ravens.
Now a member of the San Francisco 49ers, it appears that Smith is still fond of his former quarterback.
When asked if Flacco was elite, the speedy pass catcher had this to say:
The term “elite” is nearly impossible to define on a football field. Sure Flacco led Baltimore to a Lombardi Trophy against Smith’s current team back in February of 2013. However, the former first-round pick has not necessarily put up an elite regular season thus far in his NFL career. At the very least, when we compare him to those signal callers who have been mentioned among the game’s best.
This past season saw Flacco throw for nearly 4,000 yards with 27 touchdowns compared to 12 interceptions. That was coming off a 2013 campaign that saw the veteran tally more interceptions than touchdowns en route to his team missing the playoffs altogether.
One thing we can all be sure about. It’s going to take some special type of magic between Smith and his new quarterback for the receiver to conclude Colin Kaepernick is elite.
