Tom Brady: “You Can’t Bring Players out of Retirement”

New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady isn’t letting the Baltimore Ravens’ prior success be any kind of factor in their upcoming playoff game with the team (via NFL.com).

Everything’s different at this point. We can never change anything that’s happened in the past, nor can they. You can’t bring players out of retirement, they can’t either. It’s the guys we’ve got versus the guys they’ve got, which that’s an entirely new team that we have and an entirely new team that they have.

In looking at the Ravens’ current defensive unit, Brady is correct in the fact that Ray Lewis and Ed Reed won’t be suddenly appearing on the field. However, Baltimore’s defense is still one to take seriously, especially with the presence of a good pass-rushing pair in Elvis Dumervil and Terrell Suggs.

It’s also important to note that Lewis and Reed weren’t necessarily at the top of their game during the Ravens Super Bowl run in 2012, something that a lot of people refuse to focus on.

One of the things that Brady excels at is choosing the right matchup just before he takes the snap. This will keep the Ravens’ secondary guessing from time to time. The Patriots have a strong offensive army, consisting of tight end Rob Gronkowski, wide receiver Julian Edelman and a hard-to-contain running back trio which should keep the Ravens’ defense plenty busy this Saturday in Foxborough.
