It was bound to happen some time. The worst team in Major League Baseball hosting a squad on the verge of 100 wins. Pretty much everyone saw it coming.
When the final out of Thursday’s game was recorded between the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park, the scoreboard read 10-4 in favor of the road team. It also represented the Tigers’ 59th home loss in their final game in Detroit this season.
They have now tied the 1939 St. Louis Browns for the most home losses in Major League Baseball history.
We’re talking 80 years in the making. Just look at some of the bad teams from that World War II era in American history to the modern day. It’s simply stunning.
Detroit currently sits at 46-112 on the season. With a doubleheader Friday against the Chicago White Sox (why?), Detroit has four games remaining on the season.
If the Tigers were to be swept, they’d surpass last season’s Baltimore Orioles for the fifth-most losses in baseball history.
