The Rams are Still Planning on Drafting a Quarterback

The St. Louis Rams just acquired quarterback Nick Foles from the Philadelphia Eagles a couple of short weeks ago.

However, the Foles trade is not preventing the team from seeking another quarterback in this year’s NFL draft. Head coach Jeff Fisher announced earlier this week the team’s plans include to add a rookie (via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch).

It’s our intention to draft one. The Nick trade has no bearing over what we do in the draft.

It is unlikely that the Rams are going to get their hands on one of the two top draft prospects, Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota, both of whom will likely go in the top five.

However, an aggressive set of trades could move the Rams up from the 10th pick. If for some reason Mariota is not selected by the Titans, the Rams would have to possibly snake ahead of the Washington Redskins and New York Jets, who could both potentially nab him.

If this all goes to heck, then the Rams may zero in on Bryce Petty from Baylor. Fisher previously described Petty as having “a very strong arm” and indicated the prospect put up a good combine. Petty could potentially be had somewhere on Day 2.

However, it appears the Rams are likely going to head into the 2015 season with Foles slated to replace Sam Bradford under center.
