Texas Rangers beat Arizona Diamondbacks for fourth straight win

Jose Trevino drove in three runs as the Texas Rangers completed a two-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks with an 8-5 victory on Wednesday in Phoenix.

Kohei Arihara allowed two runs on four hits over 4 2/3 innings for Texas, which matched its season high with its fourth straight win.

The Rangers used seven relievers, including Jharel Cotton (1-0), who allowed one run in the sixth inning for the victory. Joe Barlow recorded the final out in the ninth for his fourth save.

Texas first baseman Nate Lowe contributed three hits with an RBI and three runs scored.

David Peralta and Nick Ahmed homered for Arizona, which has lost five in a row and 10 of its last 11 games.

Arizona took an early lead with two runs in the second inning. Peralta’s leadoff homer was the 98th of his career and moved him into eighth place on Arizona’s all-time list.

Henry Ramos then singled to right field, moved to second on a groundout and scored on Daulton Varsho’s double off Arihara.

Texas responded with three runs in the fourth against Luke Weaver (3-4). Leody Taveras tripled to begin the inning and scored on Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s groundout.

DJ Peters singled with two outs and scored on Lowe’s triple before Solak capped the rally with a run-scoring single.

Weaver allowed three runs on four hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Texas added to its lead with two runs in the sixth. Pinch hitter Yohel Pozo delivered the key hit with a two-out double off Jake Faria.

Solak, who scored from third on Pozo’s double, kept the rally going earlier in the inning when he capped a 16-pitch at-bat with a one-out infield single.

Arizona cut the lead to 5-3 with two outs in the sixth on Christian Walker’s RBI single off Cotton.

The Rangers pulled away in the eighth on Trevino’s two-run double off Taylor Widener. Kiner-Falefa added an RBI single with two outs off Miguel Aguilar.

Ahmed belted a solo homer and Ketel Marte singled in a run in the ninth for the D-backs, who fell to 5-68 when trailing after six innings.
