Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo might be the biggest name on one free-agent market next year. It’s obviously not going to be in the NFL.

Rather, Romo has one year remaining on his broadcasting deal with CBS. According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, talks between the legendary announcer and the CBS have stalled.

“With the new 2019 NFL season a week away, talks on a contract extension between Romo and CBS have stalled with little progress, said sources,” the report read.

Romo could walk away from talks once the regular season begins. This means he’d hit the open market once the campaign comes to a conclusion.

McCarthy notes that Romo could be in line to become the highest-paid broadcaster in sports history at $10-plus million annually. Other networks will obviously show interest in a man that is largely considered the best in the business after just two seasons on the job.

An opening on ESPN’s Monday Night Football could also be in the cards after former Romo teammate Jason Witten unretired to re-sign with the Cowboys. We’re sure the four-letter network will look into that possibility.
