Surprise MLB team interest in signing Yasiel Puig

MLB outfield Yasiel Puig

Yasiel Puig remains a free agent with just a few weeks before the 2020 MLB season begins. Fortunately, the star outfielder might not have to wait much longer with a surprise team making him an offer.

Baltimore Orioles interested in signing Yasiel Puig

Yasiel Puig entered MLB’s offseason as one of the top free-agent outfielders available. However, the 29-year-old remained unsigned when the league suspended play in March. Now with opening day just around the corner, interest in Puig is heating up.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Baltimore Orioles are interested in Puig and are known to have already made at least one offer.

The Orioles aren’t the only team with interest in Puig. The former All-Star has attracted attention from the San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies.

While he carries a reputation for being eccentric, the young outfielder remains productive. As Puig’s stats demonstrate, he can be an effective player. During the 2019 season, he posted a .297/.377/.423 slash line in 49 games with the Cleveland Indians and hit 22 home runs in 100 games with the Cincinnati Reds.

Puig would immediately become the best player on Baltimore’s roster and would be a fantastic one-year addition. We’ll just have to see if an MLB team signs him before the regular season begins.
