Subliners pick up 3rd sweep at CDL Major III qualifying

The New York Subliners cruised to their third sweep to join a bevy of teams with 3-1 match records on Saturday going into the final day of qualifying for the Call of Duty League’s Major III.

The Subliners finished the day as the sixth team with three wins after blanking OpTic Texas. New York is the only team in qualifying to record a 3-0 sweep of its opponent in each of its three victories.

The Los Angeles Thieves also improved to 3-1 and did so with a sweep, while the Los Angeles Guerrillas and the London Royal Ravens won their matches to conclude qualifying at 2-3.

Major III, which includes all 12 Call of Duty League teams, will be hosted by OpTic Texas from Thursday through March 12 in Arlington, Texas.

The Subliners won the first map, Embassy Hardpoint, 250-199, and followed with a 6-5 victory on Al Bagra Fortress Search & Destroy before concluding the match 3-2 on Al Bagra Fortress Control.

Paco “HyDra” Rusiewiez of France led New York with 66 kills, while teammate Cesar “Skyz” Bueno of the United States had the best kills-deaths ratio at plus-1.09. Brandon “Dashy” Otell of Canada led OpTic in kills (61) and ratio (plus-1.09).

The Thieves’ blanking of the Minnesota Rokkr began with a 250-205 win on Zarqwa Hydroelectric Hardpoint. Next came a 6-3 win on Breenbergh Hotel Search & Destroy followed by a 3-1 victory on Breenbergh Hotel Control.

Dylan “Envoy” Hannon paced the Thieves’ all-U.S. lineup with 63 kills and a plus-1.29 K-D ratio. Marcus “Afro” Reid of Great Britain finished with 61 kills and a plus-1.22 for Minnesota.

The Guerrillas lost the first map, Mercado Las Almas Hardpoint, 250-238 to the Vegas Legion, but then won the next three: 6-2 on El Asilo Search & Destroy, 3-2 on Al Bagra Fortress Control and 250-243 on Embassy Hardpoint.

Adam “Assault” Garcia of the all-U.S. Guerrillas lineup led the way with 90 kills and a plus-1.27 ratio, while Brendan “2ReaL” Stockdale led Vegas, which also had only U.S. players, with 84 kills and a plus-1.05 mark.

The Ravens went the distance to subdue the Toronto Ultra. Toronto opened with a 250-157 victory on Mercado Las Almas Hardpoint, but the Ravens replied with a 6-4 win on Breenbergh Hotel Search & Destroy. The Ultra again moved ahead with a 3-1 win on El Asilo Control, only to see Toronto again answer with a 250-232 victory on Al Bagra Fortress Hardpoint. On the deciding map, Al Bagra Fortress Search & Destroy, the Ravens won 6-2.

Obaid “Asim” Asim, a Canadian/Afghan player, paced the Ravens with 92 kills and a plus-1.24 ratio, and Thomas “Scrappy” Ernst of the U.S. finished with 85 kills and a plus-1.01 ratio for Toronto.
