Special Stadium Authority Meeting Abruptly Cancelled

Jeremy Aguero Applied Analysis

Thursday’s special meeting of the Las Vegas Stadium Authority board meeting has been cancelled just over 24 hours before it was to start. Could the battle over the naming of a chairperson to the Community Benefits Plan Oversight Committee be one of the reasons?

Just over 24 hours before it was to begin, the January 25th special meeting of the Las Vegas Stadium Authority Board has been cancelled amidst a recent Las Vegas Raiders Report story over some possible infighting over the vote on the chairperson for the Community Benefits Plan Oversight Committee and their appointment.

The story, which raises questions about why the favorite to win the role is being pressured to step aside, was an exclusive to the Las Vegas Raiders Report. It also explores possible conflicts of interest by Authority Board member Ken Evans who is vying for the chairperson role.

“While all parties have worked diligently over the past two weeks to complete these documents and make necessary revisions to others, additional time is needed to get them into a form appropriate for board review.”Applied Analysis’ Jeremy Aguero on abrupt cancellation of tomorrow’s special Stadium Authority Board meeting.

In a memo to the Stadium Authority Board Chairman Steve Hill, the Board, and staff, and obtained exclusively by the Las Vegas Raiders Report, and written and sent by Applied Analysis’ Jeremy Aguero, the reason for the 12th-hour cancellation was a need for more time to work on subjects coming before the body.

Ken Evans Las Vegas Stadium Authority

The possible appointment of Ken Evans to chair the CBP Committee has created issues for the Board.

“We continue to work with the Raiders on outstanding stadium project documents, including the stadium development agreement, the project funding trust agreement and the personal seat license purchase and sale agreement, as well as pending due diligence items relating to the transfer of the stadium land,” Aguero says in the memo. “While all parties have worked diligently over the past two weeks to complete these documents and make necessary revisions to others, additional time is needed to get them into a form appropriate for board review.”

The only item that was due for a vote – and rigorous debate – was the CBP Oversight Committee appointments. Sources also tell us the group has been asked to provide a good amount of documentation over the item, and other issues, and may be delayed due to these requests for information from the body.

The memo reset the meeting schedule to the following:

  • Scheduling a review of all remaining project documents for the board’s next regularly scheduled meeting at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 15, and
  • Scheduling an additional special board meeting where the Authority will consider approving “in form” all stadium project documents for 9 a.m., Thursday, March 1.

We will continue to follow this story and update it for you as we learn more.
