As the Black Lives Matter movement gains steam in America, many still are eager to retort with “all lives matter.” Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley understands the grim reality of the situation and expressed it perfectly on Wednesday.

Lincoln Riley shared why it’s important to use #BlackLivesMatter

Speaking with reporters, Riley (via Vic Reynolds of The Oklahoman) gave a perfect response to why using #BlackLivesMatter is so important right now.

“All lives do matter, but the incidents here of all the different things that have gone on between law enforcement and specifically black males has highlighted that…. All lives can’t matter until the black lives do too.”

Riley also shared that he’s going to stand with his players if they make a public demonstration in the future, but not just because they are his players.

The nation is still reeling from the death of George Floyd, who was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis. Floyd is just the latest in a long, long line of African-Americans who have been killed in this manner.

In the week-plus since the incident, protests have sprung up across the nation. And given the way things are shaping up, they may only continue to gain momentum, rather than disperse.
