The Philadelphia 76ers might have already lost one of their key free agents with others potentially set to follow suit.

That has not stopped general manager Elton Brand from looking to lock up one of the Sixers’ two young stars.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Philadelphia is currently talking with Ben Simmons’ agent about a max-level contract extension.

Based on the cap numbers released earlier in the weekend, Simmons’ five-year extension would be valued at around $169.5 million. It would start following next season with the following cap numbers.

  • 2020-21: $29,250,000
  • 2021-22: $31.59 million
  • 2022-23: $33.93 million
  • 2024-25: $36.27 million
  • 2025-26: $38.61 million

This comes on the heels of the Portland Trail Blazers signing Damian Lillard to a super-max contract.

Young stars are surely getting paid around the NBA right now.

Simmons, 22, averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists while shooting 56 percent from the field last season.
