Sidney Crosby Will Play for Canada at World Championship

Sidney Crosby

The Pittsburgh Penguins and I have one thing in common: we will not be winning the Stanley Cup this season. Pittsburgh can blame it on the loss to the New York Rangers Friday night. I blame it on my lack of athletic ability.

Sunday, Sidney Crosby said he will join Team Canada for the IIHF World Championship held in the Czech Republic.

According to CBS Sports, the roster is already stacked with Canadian superstars:

Among the other big names on the roster are Claude Giroux, Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza, Taylor Hall and Matt Duchene, just to name a few. Adding Crosby to the mix sure puts Canada in a good spot to win the whole thing, says Chris Peters.

If the team wins, the 27 year old would enter the “Triple Gold Club,” which is exclusively for those who have won the Stanley Cup, Olympic gold and World Championship gold. He will be the 26th player to join. It’s been eight years since Canada has won gold at the World Championships. Hopefully for Crosby’s sake, that changes this year.

Crosby has played in 627 games in his career. He has accumulated 302 goals and 551 assists.
