The NHL Department of Player Safety fined Ottawa Senators forward Mathieu Joseph $5,000 on Tuesday.

His fine for high-sticking New York Islanders’ forward Sebastian Aho on Monday night is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.

Joseph drew a two-minute penalty at the 7:23 mark of the third period in the Senators’ 4-2 home loss.

Joseph, 25, has recorded one goal and two assists in 15 games this season.

He has 85 points (42 goals, 43 assists) and 89 penalty minutes in 247 games over four-plus seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Senators.
