Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris will miss the rest of the season with a torn left ACL sustained Saturday while on loan at England’s Swansea City.

Morris, 26, was stretchered off the field during a loss to Huddersfield Town after going down with a non-contact injury.

Swansea City manager Steve Cooper confirmed the dire diagnosis Monday for Morris, who tore his right ACL three years ago and missed the 2018 MLS season.

“He’s had a bad injury, unfortunately for him. It’s significant ligament damage, ACL,” Cooper said. “Everything we hoped it wasn’t, unfortunately it is. It’s the end of his season for us and a long road back to recovery. It’s very cruel.”

Seattle loaned Morris to Swansea City on Jan. 21 to help the English Championship club fight for promotion to the Premier League. The Swans lost 4-1 on Saturday and are currently in fourth place.

“It’s a cruel injury anyway, but in the circumstances of him fulfilling an ambition and coming to Europe and being a part of what we’re trying to do here, it’s really a tough one for him and us to take,” Cooper said.

A Seattle native, Morris has tallied 35 goals and 20 assists in 105 games (96 starts) with the Sounders since making his MLS debut in 2016.

Internationally, Morris has been a mainstay with the U.S. men’s national team with 10 goals and eight assists in 39 caps. He scored the Concacaf Gold Cup-winning goal against Jamaica in 2017.
