San Francisco Giants sign infielder Tommy La Stella to three-year deal

The San Francisco Giants signed infielder Tommy La Stella to a three-year, $18.75 million contract Thursday.

The 32-year-old veteran was an All-Star in 2019 with the Los Angeles Angels, who traded him to the Oakland Athletics last August.

La Stella batted .289 with nine extra-base hits, 11 RBIs and 16 runs in 27 games with the American League West champion A’s.

He made 16 starts at second base, six at designated hitter and five at third base for Oakland.

He hit .296 with a homer and two RBIs in seven postseason games, with Oakland losing to the Houston Astros in four games in the division series.

La Stella is a career .274/.349/.405 hitter with 31 home runs and 163 RBIs in 531 games with the Atlanta Braves (2014), Chicago Cubs (2015-18), Angels and A’s.

According to the reported terms of his deal, La Stella will earn $2 million in 2021, $5.25 million in 2022 and $11.5 million in 2023.
