The San Francisco 49ers signed Bennie Fowler and waived fellow wide receiver Marqise Lee on Friday.

Fowler, 29, had just two catches for 11 yards in five games with the New Orleans Saints last season before landing on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

He has 97 receptions for 1,101 yards and six touchdowns in 68 career games with the Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Saints.

Lee didn’t finish the week with the 49ers after signing a one-year contract with the team on Monday.

Lee, 29, hasn’t played since the 2019 season after spending five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played in just six games in 2019, recording three catches for 18 yards for the Jaguars before another knee injury cut short that season.

Lee opted out of the 2020 season after signing a one-year deal with the New England Patriots last year. The Patriots cut him in March.

Lee has 174 receptions for 2,184 yards and eight touchdowns in 59 games (30 starts) for the Jaguars. He played a full 16 games just once, in 2016. Lee missed the entire 2018 season after tearing his ACL in a preseason game.

The Jaguars selected Lee in the second round of the 2014 draft out of Southern Cal.
