2024 San Francisco 49ers mock draft: Continuing to build a Super Bowl contender

The San Francisco 49ers came up just short in their attempt at winning a sixth Super Bowl title this past February against the Kansas City Chiefs.

San Francisco found itself up by double digits in the first half before Patrick Mahomes did his thing in leading the Chiefs to their second consecutive Lombardi Trophy.

For head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co., it was a bitter pill to swallow. It represented the second time in a half-decade that Kansas City had overcome a double-digit deficit to defeat the 49ers.

Now with the 2024 NFL Draft quickly approaching and some major questions surrounding the 49ers, general manager John Lynch must find a way to more depth. Here, we provide you with our latest 49ers mock draft of 2024.

San Francisco signed starting right tackle Colton McKivitz to a contract extension earlier in the offseason. It also has one of the best left tackles in that of Trent Williams. Neither of these players seem to be long-term option in Northern California. Williams is 35 years old. Meanwhile, McKivitz yielded an absolutely whopping nine sacks last season.

The 6-foot-5 Morgan started the first 10 games for Arizona back in 2012 before suffering a torn ACL. He was a full-time starter at left tackle last season, finishing as a First-Team All-Pac-12 performer. He has experience. He has athleticism. He is refined. We’re talking about someone who could be a Day 1 starter, if needed.

Second round, 63rd overall: Bralen Trice, EDGE, Washington

The 49ers signed veteran edge rusher Leonard Floyd during NFL free agency. They also lost the likes of Clelin Ferrell, Chase Young and Randy Gregory on the open market. This remains very much a need for general manager John Lynch and Co. opposite Nick Bosa. It has to be an area for the 49ers to address during this year’s draft.

The 260-pound Trice would make perfect sense in Round 2. He recorded a combined 23.5 tackles for loss and 16 sacks during his final two seasons with the Huskies. He’s great at the point of contact and shows the effort out on the edge. That’s certainly something Bosa and Co. can work with moving forward.

Third round, 94th overall: Mike Sainristil, CB, Michigan

The 49ers did not do a whole lot during the first couple waves of free agency to address the cornerback position. They have Charvarius Ward manning one spot. The expectation is that Deommodore Lenoir will be the other outside cornerback after a stellar 2023 season. Signing veteran Isaac Yiadom helps from a depth perspective. But there is a need for a youngster on this roster.

Sainristil (5-foo-10) seemes to be better suited to play the slot. The former Michigan star recorded six passes defended and six interceptions for the eventual national champions last season. He’s a ball hawk in the truest sense of the term and is a fit on the 49ers’ defense.

Fourth round, 124th overall: Theo Johnson, TE, Penn State

Noticing a theme here? San Francisco using the 2024 NFL Draft to address areas that it didn’t during free agency. Obviously, there is a need behind George Kittle at tight end. After all, 49ers tight ends not named Mr. Kittle caught all of three passes a season ago.

We love Johnson as a red-zone threat for Brock Purdy in San Francisco. The 6-foot-6 tight end saw seven of his 34 receptions turn into touchdowns a season ago. In fact, he caught 11 touchdowns in his final two seasons with the Nittany Lions.
